Live Editions is a new initiative supporting live practices - and in particular movement, sound and performance - in and around Eastbourne where the Downs meet the sea.

Between July 2026 and May 2027, 25+, the first year of Live Editions involves residencies, workshops, gatherings, talks and performances led by 25+ artists from Sussex and beyond. These activities are hosted indoors and out, in community and cultural spaces and the public space of the South Downs National Park.

This initiative stems from a desire to support the conditions - and find new ways - for live work to thrive. It responds to a relative lack of opportunities to develop and experience bold live practices in and around Eastbourne; for artists to make and present contemporary work, and for audiences to take part and experience it.

Live Editions has evolved from research (2024–26) exploring how a new initiative might work, through conversations with artists, activists, ecologists, rangers and farmers, councillors, community members and arts organisations, embracing Eastbourne and its surrounding landscape as a shifting one, in which we can all both imagine and contribute to positive change.

With Live Editions, I’m exploring a broad range of approaches to place-based work in both urban and semi/rural places, through creating spaces for research, participation, and collaboration and convivial exchange between and among artists and audiences. Activities have been co-designed with artists and partners, with a long-term commitment to creating the conditions for live practices to thrive here in unfettered and imaginative ways.
